The International Group of Accounting Firms invited Swati Agrawal and Steptoe & Johnson marketers, Debra Hare and Alycia Polley, to give an encore presentation on creating an action plan for developing and implementing a results-driven alumni program. We were pleased to hear the coordinator of the IGAF series describe ours as "one of the best programs yet." Before a standing-room-only audience, Swati Agrawal, together with Debra Hare and Alycia Polley of Steptoe & Johnson, discussed the topic of "Successful Alumni Networks -- From Design to Implementation." The audience heard first-hand examples from both the legal and consulting professions on how to design and execute alumni outreach initiatives. Additionally, the panel addressed the challenges firms face when establishing alumni programs and tips on how to overcome them.
Janice Ugaki and Swati Agrawal spoke on "How to Leapfrog from Version 2.0 to Version 20.0" at the LMA National Conference in March. Agrawal and Ugaki discussed how to navigate your marketing committee, your technology committee, and your executive committee at the outset, and how to guide, work with and navigate your "implementers" and "decision makers" successfully on an actual web project. Janice Ugaki spoke at the LMA Conference's Tech Saturday program which was focused exclusively on tech issues facing law firms today. Janice teamed up with Jay Paap, a well-known tech consultant for Fortune 500 companies, to explain strategic approaches to implementing new technologies in a law firm environment. Swati Agrawal spoke at the LMA 2004 Annual Conference, which had over 700 legal marketers from around the country in attendance. Swati discussed tech-driven proposals, in a program entitled, "Stand out from the crowd: Using interactive, branded proposals to build successful relationships."
Rather than following the basic economic principles of supply and demand, 'next generation' extranets serve as knowledge management 'centers' and increase the demand for a firm's legal services by increasing the supply of legal information in the marketplace. In this article, Janice Ugaki and Jim Pavle, the Chief Marketing Officer for McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, explain how law firms can increase overall revenue by making the firm's general knowledge base more accessible and becoming the "go-to" source for legal information. Law firms generally think of technology as consuming dollars, but in this program entitled, "Using Technology to Make the Most of Your Marketing Dollars," Swati Agrawal and Anne Balduzzi discussed and demonstrated ways in which well-spent technology dollars could help stretch a marketer's budget. Specifically, Ugaki discussed new, cost-effective technology solutions for law firm web sites that can increase firm efficiency and client service. Swati Agrawal joined other law and technology experts in addressing the relevance of e-commerce to the practice of law. Others on the panel included eBay's inside counsel.
Janice Ugaki testified on Capital Hill before the National Foundation of Women Legislators, Communications, Media and IT Policy Committee. Her testimony addressed the low number of women and minorities in technology management positions and policy proposals to address this issue. Ugaki testified alongside Darien Dash, President Clinton's and President Bush's Advisor on the Digital Divide, and other leading experts. Swati Agrawal spoke about best web site practices and how they can be applied by legal associations and law firms. The Association of Legal Administrators is the country's leading group for legal management, with over 9,000 members. Firmseek was one of the sponsors of the LMA Conference 2001, in Toronto, Canada. Swati Agrawal and Janice Ugaki spoke at the International Leaders Summit 2000 on October 16, 2000 in Washington, DC to discuss "Technology and E-business." Over 1500 delegates from 97 nations attended. Swati Agrawal spoke at the NAPABA Annual Convention on October 14, which hosted over 400 NAPABA members from around the country. Swati Agrawal sat on this panel which addressed issues such as new rules for firms investing in India and professional service firms offering services in India. Other speakers included Geoff Steward, a partner at Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, Subba Telidevara with CDC Capital Partners and Tom Cunningham, CEO, Techbooks. Swati Agrawal spoke on the topic of "Engineering the Corporation," which focused on the key success factors for start-up business plans. Other speakers at the conference included Rajat Gupta, Managing Director of McKinsey & Co. and Mike Daniels, former Chairman of Network Solutions. Janice Ugaki was a panelist at the Bay Area Legal Marketing Association's Annual Technology Program, where she discussed developments in legal services procurement. Firmseek was one of seven Washington, DC, companies selected from over 300 applicants to present at the Annual Northeast Venture Conference. Thanks to the many attorneys, judges, and in-house counsel who visited our booth at the annual American Bar Association Conference in New York.
